Our History

Over 150 Years of Cutting Tool Innovation

Where It All Began

Founded in 1864 by Stephen A. Morse the inventor of the twist drill MORSE began as the Morse Twist Drill and Machine Company in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Soon after introducing the twist drill, MORSE developed the taper shank drill to improve performance, setting a new standard in metal cutting.

Over time, MORSE built a strong reputation for innovative, American-made products that were fully stocked, competitively priced, and ready when customers needed them.

A Legacy of Growth & Innovation

Entering the twentieth century, the company continued to advance manufacturing technology, including the development of a grinding machine used in drill production. During World War II, MORSE significantly expanded output—producing up to five times normal capacity to support the war effort.

Today & Beyond

MORSE Cutting Tools is an engineering-driven manufacturer providing standard and custom cutting solutions. With deep expertise in tool design and production, MORSE delivers high-performance end mills, drills, taps, and more—engineered to meet the demands of specific applications.

By providing the right cutter for the job, MORSE helps customers reduce machining time, improve efficiency, and lower overall manufacturing costs. MORSE proudly serves a wide range of metalworking industries, including aerospace, die and mold, automotive, medical, and general engineering.
